CONSULTING ARBORIST AND TREE VALUATIONS
Randy Owen, the owner of Owen Tree Service Inc. has 35 years of experience in all facets
of tree care. Additionally, our staff of ISA Certified Arborists has varying levels of education/experience ranging from college
degrees, industry seminars, and personal experience in working with trees and shrubs. Our trained and educated professionals,
with over 150 years of combined experience, can make an informed decision on the health and safety of your trees. We
understand tree physiology and how trees function and respond to human activities and intervention.
Tree pathology provides the basis for developing disease management plans to control tree
and shrub disease pests. Tree and shrub disease management plans should address all tree and shrub disease
pests as well as abiotic causes of tree decline.
Tree
entomology is used to identify mite and insect pests causing tree stress. Tree and shrub insect management plans are
planned and scheduled to provide control treatments at the time of year when the pest is most vulnerable to control methods.
We
perform tree related investigations and write reports on our findings for insurance loss appraisals, court litigations, tree
health, tree preservation on new construction sites, and plant and tree appraisals and valuations.

Management
Plan Development: A management plan involves a complete evaluation of your site or facility; taking into consideration
all aspects of the landscape, including a tree inventory, insect and pest management, soil and root health and maintenance
requirements. The final results of the plan are presented in booklet form and can be an important management tool for
property managers and administrators.
Tree Inventory: A tree inventory on your property can be a great first
step in a long term management program. The inventory will identify the quality and long-term viability of various trees
providing a baseline for planning. Tree inventories are typically included as part of a management plan.
Tree Preservation
Programs for Construction Projects: Construction around trees can be traumatic. Owen's Tree Care pre-construction
consultation is generally designed to protect the plants and document their situation in advance. Post construction
consultations may involve quantifying and mitigate damage that has already occurred.
Tree Appraisal, Valuation, and Damage Assessment: An expert insurance appraisal
following a natural or man-made incident can be extremely valuable to a property owner. These services are performed by our
staff of Consulting Arborists and ISA Certified Arborists. Tree valuations are a good tool for property managers that
can be used to develop budgets and maintenance programs.
Project Management and Landscape Assessment Planning: Often a construction
project; be it residential or commercial, can benefit from input from an arborist during the planning stage (preferably during
the design stage). The arborists at Owen Tree Service can provide guidance and support for your planner, engineers,
and contractors prior to the start of a project, saving you money on your investment.
Tree Appraisals: The value of landscape trees located on your property
can be substantial. According to the International Society of Arboriculture, good landscaping can boost the market value
of a property from 5% to 20%. Trees are therefore tangible assets to your property value. It is possible to have comprehensive
coverage riders added to home insurance policies to cover at least limited storm losses to shade and ornamental trees, if
not more.
Landscape
trees have significance in architectural, engineering, climatic and aesthetic purposes. An accurate appraisal of landscape
trees is often required in legal disputes, damage claims or casualty loss by insurance companies.
Beyond this protection, the IRS may permit an income tax deduction to those who can show
they incurred a loss in excess of 10% of adjusted gross income due to a severe storm during the tax year. In all cases, claims
must be supported by credible figures.
Property owners should take photographs of their landscape trees every two or three years
to document tree number, size, condition, and appearance to protect against loss. If a loss does occur, photographs should
be taken and, if possible, the tree should be appraised before removal.
This is where we can help. Owen Tree Service offers tree consulting appraisal for residential
and commercial clients throughout Southeastern Michigan.
Residential and Commercial Services:
- Site
Consultation- We offer one-on-one discussion of the client's needs such as insect, disease, cultural problems, or to assess
storm damage.
- Design- After consultation, a landscape or
garden design may be drawn, defining garden areas, and determining appropriate use of plants, and additional features needed.
If a licensed landscape architect or architectural skills are required, such services are subcontracted, or we'll work with
a client's architect or help locate one in the area.
- Plant
Selection - We will work with the client to find the right trees and shrubs, for the right place in your landscape. We'll
work with the customer to pick the woody plants that have the potential to survive long term, and be insect and disease
free. We can help decide the size, cost, and availability of woody plant material needed for your landscape. If
needed we can visit nurseries with clients to help them select plant materials.
- Plant
Identification - Do you have trees, shrubs, or vines on your property that you cannot identify? We can identify the
trees, shrubs, and vines, plus provide a tree hazard assessment, tree valuation and proper tree and shrub care information
for each tree and shrub species.
- Installation - We will oversee
or perform all aspects of landscape installation or supervise the client's installation crew, and work with the client to
ensure proper planting is being performed on their property.
- Maintenance
- We are available for long term monitoring of landscapes, and to give advice regarding proper mulching, watering, fertilization,
pruning and weed control, insect control, and disease control.
- Natural
Areas Management - Have an existing natural area, or an interest in development of natural areas on your property? We
can assist you in planning for its development needs, and plant selections suited for the local climate and local wildlife.
